What would you say when I ask:

1. What is the meaning of your being a musician?

2. What will people loose if you stop doing what you're doing?

I am asking this all the time.

For myself it's clear.

The meaning of being a professional in music for me is to inspire people because inspired people tend to create a better, happier life – even a life worth living – and I got to keep this ancient tradition of music alive.

I do it by:

1. Keeping the art of free-hand violin design based on music and tradition rather than math alive and create bespoke original instruments. It's a simple 7 ingredients system, a tradition lost by the Italians in mid 18th century and re-discovered by myself in the last 25 years. The art of giving musicians their voice.

2. To keep Violoncello da spalla ancient tradition alive.
It's the instrument of choice for cello's most important composers in the 17th and 18th centuries, based on three pillars: People, Papers, Paraphernalia – that is, composers and players, written documents and music, and surviving instruments. Classical music in all it's parts deserves surviving.

3. To make musicians independent from being slaves to the current unsustainable and frequently corrupt music system where there is no place for everyone.

I've been a freelance professional in music for 25 years, been a core member of worlds finest groups – La Petite Bande for 12 years, Ricercar Consort for 4 years, traveling around the world with amazing colleagues… Only to get fired as a musician because some said, "You do not fit". Thank you by the way, I also think now I did not fit – because I found out in the past 10 years that a musician does not need mafioso contacts, dirty politics, sponsors, government support, colleagues approval in order to be on stage, create amazing music, move audiences and get paid.

And it's only six basic elements:

1. Know you can.
2. Get the right people around your career, forget all others
3. Grow your talents and make your message crisp and clear.
4. Inform people about your talents
5. Connect the few gadgets you have in your pocket anyone in the right order
6. Get paid.

By the way out of these Six, only the 3rd is taught.

The other Five being replaced by all kinds of subjects that do not really matter.

Happy Weekend!
